You mean safe sex isn't safe anymore? A reduction in viewing porn will help save the planet? Sounds a tad religious to me. lol. The last line brings to mind the scene in the movie "Brainstorm" where Hal Holbrook was on the floor visibly shaking from porn overload via virtual reality. Still not safe? What to do?
Wouldn't "getting your rocks off in more environment-friendly ways" produce about the same amounts of carbon dioxide anyway? Or doing any number of other physical activities? Sounds like bullshit to me.
A reduction in all online activities/use of electronics will help save the environment
I hate these junk science articles because they remove all credibility from actual science and are in general a poor representation of what actual science is.
If you follow the link it goes to another "science news" article, that references yet another "news" article, that is about "digital sobriety" whatever that means.
If you look at the numbers, you quickly realize that this is just a fraction ( 27% ) of a fraction ( 60% ) of a fraction ( 4% ) of a percent of all carbon emissions ( 0.00648% ) , and just dropping porn will not save the climate.
I skimmed through the original work and it seems to have a lot of problems that may not be addressed, for example the carbon production is based on energy consumption per byte, across the average, a number that may be wildly inaccurate due to the differences in energy source in a region and rates of information consumption. ( If regions that use only renewable energy consume more bytes than regions with high CO2 consumption, the results would look as if there were more CO2 produced per byte than the reality )
I didn't get so deep. It's apparent that orgasm is one of the strongest needs on the planet.so use that Co2 and die happy!
Don't care. Leave my porn alone.
Agreed.
