Enaje was among three devotees nailed to wooden crosses in the village on Friday, including a woman taking part for the seventh time.
Actors wearing Roman soldier costumes attached the devotees to crosses by hammering two-inch nails soaked in alcohol through their hands and feet and hoisted them up in a field packed with domestic and foreign tourists.
The Catholic Church in the Philippines tolerates the ritual but says it does not support such gory displays of devotion, describing them as a “misinterpretation of faith”.
same place that sends assassination squads after junkies ? eff duarte and all those alike
Yes indeed, the church got excited in their ability extend terror and fear. This is what I have learned recently, The Roman Empire/church, did NOT use the cross for crucifiztion of special people. The cross allowed the common person to die rather quickly but the X frame was just that, No support for feet, no ability to control your arms over your head and the pain was intense. I just love god stories, always so freaking violent and then portrayed as all loving god
But in the past the Catholic Church did 'support'; burning heretics alive, torturing people till they converted and armed conflict. "We (The Catholic Church) tolerate your portrail of Christ's dying on a cross but we reserve the right to not support it, unless we do it", said some RedBird.
Yes, but they're really cut back lately.
