I cannot understand the mentality of people who think that coronavirus is somehow linked with 5G: [bbc.com] . I see them as being wholly irrational.

Some people fear everything they don't understand.
They are feared even more if when trying to understand it,it is too difficult for their brains. That leaves a very wide opening for someone to sell them a theory that explains it in common terms.
I believe the conspiracy theories are sometimes spread and encouraged by businesses. For example the one about phone towers could have been encouraged and spread by Internet service providers who feared the effect on their bottom line if municipalities started installing them for free Internet for their citizens.

The same people campaigned against 2g mobile phone masts. They also bought those same mobile phones and held them to their ears, even while claiming they fried your brsin!
