I hate the people that did this to her - those SPECIFIC mis-guided fools. I don't hate ALL theists. In fact some of my best friends are theists. We respectfully discuss our beliefs, and seek to better understand one another. I realize that they aren't all understanding - but if I'm being fair there are also many atheists that aren't very understanding.
Now, I'm not trying to claim a false equivalence - I realize there are likely more unreasonable theists than atheists. I'm just not a fan of painting with a broad brush. In my opinion it's that kind of thinking that has lead us to believe that we are more divided than ever; making us unwilling to listen and learn.
I'm a firm believer that if I paint with a broad brush, others should be be allowed to do the same. I don't want to be viewed as the angry, baby-eating, satan-worshiping atheist - and you know there are theists that view us that way. I'm pretty sure they also have their own memes.
Bending over TOO far backward to be fair, though I respect your desire to do so. If only the people you are treating with such even-handedness felt the same way.
I assume you're agnostic. Not sure they'd cut off your head immediately; might try to convert you first, which would be your only hope.
I wouldn't bet on it, though.
@Storm1752 The people that did this to this woman, I am not treating even handedly, they are reprehensible. But am I judging all theists in the same way I judge them - no. It's a world that is overwhelmingly filled with theists.
I identify as an atheist...but technically I'm an agnostic atheist, since I don't know a god doesn't exist. The people that did this to her are more than likely muslim, who are fundamental in their belief. So for them, even if I was a believer, if I didn't believe in their god...or their version of god, they would probably kill me.
My heart breaks and I hate whomever did this to her!
However---as we move through life, we find many theists who are loving, mellow people who live and let live. My own grandmother was such a woman. Whenever I see the acts of "Islamists" or Christian imperialists, etc, I remember my grandmother.
Are all theists kind, loving and dedicated to helping others? HELL, NO! But many are and we can't forget them.
I don't see any helping point saying there's a good theists, for me all the job is about calculating possibility of make them adult(someone as no longer believing unicorns as becoming adult) or leave them
If you hate theists why you put a shock meme on Islam only? Do you know how many people have died in the name of Christianity? Do you know about Crusades and Inquisition?
I hate religion!
Christianity does not condone killing. We believe the people behind the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition are burning in Hell.
At first i was sure Jacar posted this!
Nasty people have always been with us.
Some use religion(s) for excuses
You cannot hate a whole section of society for the wrongs perpetrated by individuals. This woman’s father did a despicably criminal act by maiming his daughter in this way, he is lacking in human feeling towards his own flesh and blood, and his actions must be condemned by all right minded people, but I cannot see that you can blame all people who believe in god for his actions.
You mean Society that gathered under the name of God, Islamic state, Shouldn't be hated by that? Even though their law allowing stone death penalty for atheist like me? I wonder their reaction If we make a same law against them here.
I tend to think of that as more the work of a psychopath who happens to be a theist. A mentally stable theist isn't going to do something that unbalanced. The problem is there's a lot of mentally unstable people out there and many of them have found god.
I'd like to believe that, but I've seen too many otherwise normal people commit terrible offences in the name of religion. Suicide bombers would be an example. Marginalised people that become radicalised and convinced to become martyrs. As the saying goes, good people do good and bad will do bad but for good men to do bad takes religion
@Cyklone You make a valid point.
You CAN say "I hate theists."
I don't believe that you hate the people themselves but hate what tey do and stand for.
In this forum I do believe such sentiments are acceptable.
However, I wouldn't express those feelings "in public."
Thank you for the explanation
All I learned as a Christian for the first 23 years of my life was to hate everyone else, to look down on them, to discriminate against others, to make them want to be like us or else. Of course, it was all worded differently. I don't necessarily hate all theists. I do despise the ones that use religion to justify oppression and harm to others. To all the others, I just roll my eyes when they bring up religion. Still with others, religion is not even discussed.
Omg. Especially Islamic theists----whose juvenile rump offshoot religion is even more deformed than Christianity and Judaism combined!
Sorry if this flies in the face of group think, but Trump's anti-Islam attitude is the only thing I agree with him about.
They are so inbred and retarded I cannot stand the sight of a burka walking tent or a 'holy' Koran. If I could burn ONE book and by so doing make it go away forever, that would be that one, with stiff competition from the...other one from that general area. Apparently that particular barren wilderness plays funny tricks with the mind.
Sorry for the rant.
I feel better now.
Thank You ~
This is sickening. How can this be justified as the will of God?
How can women support such practises in the religion?
This world is perverted ffs
Religion is poison.
Agree
I know a lot of theists that would NEVER even think of doing this or any harm to anyone. I hope you don't really hate all theists because of the actions of a few; if so, you're missing out on the friendship of some wonderful people.
I do not hate the people who are brainwashed and scammed by religion. Rather, I pity them. What I hate is the scam itself.
But I think the person who threw acid in his daughter's face ought to serve some prison time.
This is all about power and nothing to do with religion.
They read and preach the Quran everyday which is written about beating woman and cutting the infidels throat.
@SeaGreenEyez WTF? I owned Quran
@SeaGreenEyez If it's that good woman caring tradition, why don't you start wearing burka on your area?
@HaejungKim Have you red the Quran to be able to say that?
@HaejungKim Oh, how ignorant you are.
I'm not a fan of theism. I respect theists but disagree with them.
Ditto
Sad but You also should never have Hate in your life! Hate is a weakness! It a powerless state of mind! Your mind turns to hate when you can't handel something! In stead stay factual and keep searching for solutions! Problems are only categorized as problems untill they are solved! Therfore problems don't really exist! Get rid of things you don't LIKE! Don't get envolve with people or things you don't like or love! Live only with what you Love! There are things and people I don't like(don't hate and don't care about) and therefore they have no place in my life(my circle)! One day! We might never need to see this nonsense violence happening!
The problem is Patriarchy which all traditional religions support. Remember, evangelical Christians supported the war on Iraq in order to get a fundamentalist Christian foothold in Iraq. Why not post some pictures of Abu Ghrab tortures which resulted from such Christian anti-Muslim fundamentalism? [wired.com]
You don’t have to hate someone and hate what they’ve done. Defining someone by a particular title is effectively inaccurate and goes a long way to creating a bias. So they’re religious. Look at them wholly. Typically no single act is ever simple. That doesn’t excuse this, and I’d hope no atheist/agnostic would do something like this, but I have enough experience of the human condition to realize that’s probably wrong. Open your mind, try to empathize with other view points, be realistic.
Hate doesn’t help anything and I don’t think religion was even the cause of that incident. So now you have misplaced hate, which demonstrates my first point.
Yeah true typing hate on pedophiles doesn't help any in real
Why do Middle East radical Islamics expect secularism from European nations?
Why do you expect an answer for a question, the assumptions of which you have not established as fact. In other words, your question assumes something you've not established to be true. It's like my asking you, do you still beat your wife?
I'm disgusted by Middle Eastern Islamic zealots, BUT they are more true to their faith than Christian zealots, which shows the slow yet, persuasive secular influence unfolding. It just needs to creep deeper into the Middle East.
Huh?
Nonsense.
@paul1967 Not true. Jews kill Palestinians with impunity all the time in occupied Palestine simply because the latter are not Jewish in what is supposedly the Promised Land. Catholic Christians killed Orthodox Christians for their religion in Bosnia and vice-versa. What you say is true of Western Christians and Jews in well-fed stable Western countries. But we know it wasn't that way when these countries weren't stable. Similarly, Islamic fundamentalism was a fringe phenomenon under Arab socialism. The issue then is the conditions that caused Islamic fundamentalism to grow and become dangerously widespread. Those conditions were created by the US in its destruction of the secular socialist governments in the Muslim world: Indonesia 1965, Afghanistan 1979 on, Iraq 2003, Syria and Libya currently. If you really hate Islamic fundamentalism like I do, then oppose the US Imperialism that instigates and feeds it. Otherwise you are just being a chauvinist boasting about the superiority of your culture while you go about destroying other cultures.
@Krish55 Two things, I never said it was cured, I said secularism has helped lessen the violence. That is an opinion I hold having lived for a while in the western world and researched the history of witch trial and dark age Christian actions. Lastly if you look back to my post you will see that I said it needs to creep deeper into the Middle East. However, I should have added Eastern Europe and Africa.
@paul1967 I certainly agree with the importance of secularism. In that case, oppose the US support of Islamic fanatics in the Muslim world (eg, Syria and Libya), Jewish fanatics (occupied Palestine), and Christian fanatics (Brazil, Central America) which is all done to oppose secular socialist governments that want to control their own resources. Fanaticism flourishes in the mess created by the exploitation and war caused by imperialism. This is more than a religious issue.
@paul1967 Moreover, you are whitewashing your own history here. Pun intended! What was the major Klan symbol? The Cross. Mark Twain commented about the good Christians being late for Church after a good lynching the night before. This radical Protestantism is why the Klan attacked white Catholics also. Your white Western history has been greatly whitewashed. It was under the auspices of Christianity that the Slave Trade and genocidal Colonialism was perpetrated. So don't try to assert any type of white Western moral superiority...
