We have access to Online pornography of any kind and we can download and keep the images of it. There is a big difference in images that nobody can remember ever, and images of children that are known today that might have been abused. The porn collector does not care who they are or from what era. The law makes no distinction and you may go to prison for having pictures dating back to 1920 or 1945. Nobody cares who is in the pictures. It's just the fact that you have them on your computer.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??????? A year in prison? One Year? I have no faith left in the human race.

It's the "justice" system you shouldn't have faith in.
There's good people in every corner of the land.
They're mixed with a wide range of not so good to awful people.

@NOSDEN The justice system is designed by us, it's not some entity we have no control over. There are good people out there, for sure, but why those good people can't influence a change in the system is beyond me. But then again those in power don't really care to change something that's not in their favor.

@HannaYou "The justice system is designed by us, it's not some entity we have no control over." Really?
Wow, you must live in some other place than I because nobody has ever asked me or anyone I know what the minimum sentence should be on any crime or in fact if it is a crime in the 1st place.
The laws and judicial system are not made by you and me for our benefit. It is made by the establishment for theirs. Church leaders, Wall St crooks, politicians and rich white folks will always get a smooth ride. If I am wrong then name one that has done hard-time?
A case in point, back in 2005 my gf, her inlaws and I decided to try some imported mushrooms of the hallucinogenic kind. This was all perfectly legal and I went to a shop to buy them. We had the trip which I will not describe here but a few months later there was an election. The same administration of T. Blair got in again and one of the 1st things he did was make these mushrooms illegal. I saw no mention of this in his manifesto. It was never hinted at. There did not seem to be any pressing need, no long queues outside the head shop of drug-crazed mush-heads wanting a fix. Yet unilaterally, the govt decides to ban them. So tell me again how the system is made by us.

@273kelvin You're right, not a single one has done hard time (I don't believe I said they did) because the majority doesn't take a stand to reform the system. It's not an easy fix, and I would never claim it to be, but to see a change, even a small one, 'us', the people, are the ones who need to pressure law makers to change things because the establishment will not alter itself.
And my sincere condolences to your mushrooms!

@HannaYou Mushrooms are trivial compared to some other things. It can be hard enough to exact justice from the existing system. Take for example the Hillsborough disaster that effected my city. This happened in 1989, yet it took till 2016 for the truth to come out but still no prosecution of the officials responsible. This is with a very concerted campaign by the families of the victims and support of the people of Liverpool.

@273kelvin "It can be hard enough to exact justice from the existing system:- Absolutely. Those responsible will always try to avoid punishment, especially for horrible crimes like the disaster you mentioned or the in the case of abused children. And that is exactly why the majority has to push for reform, because if we don't, nothing will change for the better. I admire the families of victims that fight to alter the system to bring some sort of justice and see that similar things don't happen in the future.

"First time offender" doesn't translate well to someone who collected tens of thousands of images and videos over a six year period. It was just the first time he was caught. Each time he accessed and collected a new image was a new offense meaning he offended thousands and thousands of times before he was caight and prosecuted the first time.

hang him. Simple, low cost and effective

Twisted, vile, little weasel shite! 😡

3

28,000 images, etc, and he gets classified as a 'First Offender," WTF.
Low-life scumbags like that deserve NO sympathy, No leniency, No chance of Parole, just a Whole Of Sentence behind bars and to be put in with worst criminals possible not in any Secluded/Secure Section/s of a prison.

Oh yeah, the Bible is a great childcare guide! Glory!

It’s clickbait. I didn’t find any images of abuse. Just a news article.

If the guy had a snuff movie would you want that posted? The whole point is that these images are illegal and immoral. to re-post them would be a crime. You don`t have to see crime scene pictures for you to know there has been a crime committed

@273kelvin wooosh

Online access to pornography is definitely changing our world.

Really! Free!!?? 😮

All this technology is changing so fast, and its going to be awhile before our social and brain evolution has adapted to keep up. Hundreds of years I'd think. We have to be careful not waste energy fighting hopeless battles. Digital pornography is here, period. And its going to get harder for anybody to govern, and its going to get MUCH more immersive with stuff like virtual reality and electronic/brain interfaces. We cannot stop it from happening. But we can try to educate and prepare children so that its not a force which causes them unhappiness and problems. They need to have the tools to choose minimal exposure to it, or handling it in a healthy way.

And, we need to keep the perspective that we've found sex in cave art 37,000+ years old in France!

@Observer-Effect The technology is here but we are slowly learning how to police it. Whilst I agree that educating children on how to avoid being exploited is important, that might not always be possible. I would bet that many of those images were of trafficked kids.
Our attitudes to pornography have changed with the internet. A couple can exchange pictures that a few decades ago the local drug store would have refused to develop. Yet still, there is a guiding principle of not posting illegal acts. The theory is if there were no fences then there were be far fewer thieves.
