For decades, the world was blatantly aware that there was a segment of the American population that were unsavory. These boorish individuals were unflatteringly labeled "Ugly Americans".

Here at home, we always acknowledged that unfortunately, yes they existed, but always insisted that they just a small minority and were not representative of most Americans. Once again unfortunately the world knew the percentage was significantly higher than we Americans were willing to admit.

The pandrmic has changed that. With less travel outside the country we are seeing just how large the Ugly American syndrome really is, only its happening within our own borders with our own people. About 40% of the American public have decided that the health regulations do not apply to them. They feel that they are entitled and nobody has the right to tell them what to do, regardless whether it benefits them to listen and heed for their own and their families safety. They incorrectly complain that their rights are being infringed upon when asked to wear a mask or not gather in large groups. Unfortunately they are being encouraged by the biggest Ugly Ammerican of all, the President.

What the world knew all too well is that there were more Americans that were legends in their own minds, were self-centered, and thought they were entitled and the world owed them fealty wherever they went. We now know that first hand that America has a fatter, unsavory underbelly than we wanted to admit.
