Donna Shalala was Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001.
Florida’s Covid-19 outbreak is “totally out of control,” according to a Democratic representative, and the mayor of Los Angeles said his city is “on the brink” of new restrictions, comments that suggest the country’s months of trade-offs between the health of the community and the economy are far from over.
Speaking Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Donna Shalala called for a lockdown of the third most-populous state and dismissed talk about reopening schools as “ridiculous.”
If Florida were a country it would be #5 in new cases today. Restaurants and most beaches are open. The one bright spot in the past few days is that the largest supermarket chain in the state (Publix) will be requiring masks starting Tuesday. Why the f%$& are this and other states open other than they don't want to pay unemployment?!
She's right of course..should have been done in March..
I am convinced Gov Desantis (R-FL) reopened as he is 45's lapdog and didn't want to pay all the unemployment claims. In order to maintain the brown color on his nose he is trying to reopen schools in August. 1 in 4 people in Florida are elderly, I hope he has plenty of heavy equipment on standby to dig the mass graves that will be needed. I am terrified.
Mayor Garcetti (of L.A.) is referring to the scoffers who have shoved their way into businesses/beaches, etc. and to the businesses which have relaxed the ''mask only'' rules. He's gained respect all around for his handling of the crisis...he's empathetic, understanding and still serious about making needed improvements.
