The ostensible reason for removing machinery & cutting hours at the USPS is, "it's losing money" (after being forced to, among other things, fund the next 75 years of pensions, for workers it doesn't, obviously, have yet).
You & I can quickly & easily help! Just buy some stamps! If everyone bought just $20 of Forever stamps (which you can do online!) the arguement that "it's just necessary cost-cutting" would be demolished overnight!
Why the Post Office is amazing
@dave1459 WE have Unions and management in Our Post office in Ireland and we can send a letter to anywhere in Europe (500 million people) in 2 days. It always amuses me when Public services in the US are underfunded and even Defunded by Republicans and then they complain about them not working properly. It's a political ideology that makes this happen. It's republicans who believe that the FREE market will solve everything and nothing should be done by government if it can be avoided.
A post office service is essential if a country wants to have a first world economy. It's not there to make money. It's there because it has to be there. The US has already abandoned it's citizens by making citizens get their health care form the Private sector. Next in line is the Post office. Then Public Schools and Public transport. There does not seem to be anything that the US is not willing to destroy in the name of the Free market.
@dave1459 Before Private Corporations sold Health Insurance the US had BLUE CROSS private health care and it was NON Profit. Then the FREE market got involved and multiple Private companies got involved from the 1950's on. So my point was not about Private health care, it was that the FREE market that destroyed health care in the US with Higher costs and worse patient outcomes that other countries that have Proper Public health Systems like Canada and France and Ireland etc etc
Close the US post office and watch what happens to the cost of sending a letter. You will regret doing that one, I can Promise you that
The thing that blows my mind and I haven't seen news coverage of this. They are putting lock boots on mailboxes. Locking then did the can't accept mail.
Montana was a test case...they got stopped from removing them, so this must be plan B
Bolt cutters about $20 at Harbor Freight.....
@AnneWimsey True. But if no one is going to the mailbox to empty it, mail would just sit there interminably.
@Apunzelle it is the thought that counts, I think a simple sign saying "do not use" after cutting the lock would tell the story.....
I can't wait until 2021 when a lot of tRumps asshole enablers go to jail. All of this illegal bullshit right out in the open. Makes it easy for the prosecutors
