Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Most art historians now agree Paul Gauguin cut off van Gogh's ear in a duel,or at least a fight, and that Vincent presented the ear to his amour as proof he was defending her honour, which was ironic since she was a local prostitute.

Well, that actually makes more sense, inthe context of the times, than cutting it off himself....that ear cartilage is Tough!
But he did it for her, as a gift.
