A lot of people are Blaming Biden for what is happening in Afghanistan. Thy are dead wrong. The following are the facts.

1. No foreign country has EVER succeeded in creating a new regime in that area. Akexander the Great, the British Empire, and the Russians failed miserably. We are just the latest example.

2. Few =, if any, nation states have been successful in an area in which the dominant economic, social, and political structure is dominated by ethnic tribes and tribal warlords. Loyalty tends to stay with the tribe – not the state. Africa, the Middle East, and Asia are littered with failed states made up of ethnic tribes. When the communists came to power in China in 1948, they recognized this fact, and deliberately eradicated the tribal social, political, and economic structure.

3. Our intervention in Afghanistan was doomed from the start. We were right in going into the country to eradicate secure bases for Al-Quaeda, and to punish the Taliban for deliberately harboring them. But our mission should have been to eradicate the Al-Quaeda bases, and to destroy the capacity of the Taliban. We should have gone in with overwhelming power, cut off Taliban access to Pakistan, and destroyed the Taliban forces; then turned over the governing matter to the Afghanistanis, themselves – and gotten the hell out But Rumsfeld’s decision-making was horribly poor and created the situation we have today.

4. Afghanistan has had 20 years to get its act together, with our support and assistance. That is time enough. It simply was not going to happen. It was past time to cut our losses and get out.
