There were chaplains in the military who had become atheist after seeing the horrors of Vietnam and continued in their jobs because, one it was all they new and liked the military, and two, they felt what they did was needed for those soldiers who did believe. I have also read about a group of priests and pastors who no longer believe but have done this so long they have no idea what else they can do. I knew a doctor a few years ago who didn't like being a doctor, and he was a really good doctor, who wised he had become a lawyer. By the time he figured this out he had too much time and money invested in med school to change career paths. You as much and maybe even more as anyone l have had conversations with know it is not a black and white world.

I never attended church when I was in Viet Nam even though I was a Christian at the time. I just didn't want to hear the bullshit that if I'm killed I would be with Jesus. Many men believed this lie. Sometimes I think it got them killed because they weren't careful and were just relying on Jesus to keep them safe.
