So many are cults, even if they appear mainstream. Course, like this, some are worse...

I think the word cult is funny. Before Christianity all religion was composed of cults, often more than one per faith, it was all mainstream. Now it is a term of derision ie. not christian...

I would use this criteria for what constitutes a cult , and not simply a religious sect [culteducation.com] . Also some cults , such as notably the Independent Fundamental Baptists , actually are conventionally Christian in their doctrine .

@Marmion I would use many criteria for what a cult is, dependent on the context. It just amuses how the same phonemes can alter their meaning over time.
