Got to control the people
Canada has far stricter gun control laws than here in the USA, and their laws didn't save them from a mass shooting in Nova Scotia- [people.com]
Oh well, so much for the laws. Oh that's right, criminals don't give a damn about the laws, which is why they are criminals. Thoughts & prayers aren't the only worthless things out there, laws like that are also equally worthless.
The Nova Scotia shooter smuggled in 3 of his toys from Maine, so you Americans deserve a share of the credit for that bloodbath as well, to be honest. But no-one nowhere is claiming such tragedies will never happen even in a country like Canada. They do, but at a frequency much, much lower than America. That is an undeniable, statistical fact of life. Therefore, the laws do work. As for criminals not giving a damn about laws…well, that’s also true for speeders, isn’t it? Nevertheless, our roads and highways are regulated in this regard (especially around schools) in order to persuade people to drive safely. And if you choose to flaunt those laws, then (and only then) will you be treated like a criminal. Regardless, some people will continue to drive recklessly, but that’s not an argument against speed limits, is it?
@NostraDumbass Who cares where he got the weapons from, point is he got them somehow regardless of the laws, the laws didn't prevent mass shootings. Again, the frequency is besides the point, so I'll ask again what good are more laws when the current ones are powerless to stop criminals from getting their hands on weapons, and you even admit yourself that all the laws in the world will not deter every determined criminal. Laws either work or they don't, there is no in between, and if any of them fail even once that means they didn't work, so makes you think more of the same is going to make any substantial difference? Yeah, more useless legislation, as if speeders and intoxicated/high individuals have any regards for such, and once again you've admitted that and proven my point. I question those laws as well. Actually it is an argument against speed limits, last time I checked most areas of the Autobahn in Germany lack speed limits, so at least the Germans are a bit smarter than Canada and the US and that part. I seriously doubt Germany has the same problem with speeders and DUI as the US does.
@SpikeTalon This type of black or white thinking reminds me of a religious apologist: You’ve got so much invested in your worldview that you simply can’t afford to admit you’re wrong even in a small way lest the whole house of cards you’ve built comes tumbling down. So, like the religionist, you start with the conclusion and then work your way backwards to make the evidence and arguments fit as best you can. This is why your irrationality comes shining thru in statements like “the frequency is besides the point” (it obviously isn’t) or “if a law fails even once that means it doesn’t work”. This is kindergarten level sophistry that pretty well eliminates you from the conversation as someone who should be taken seriously. Their is healthy skepticism (which I respect), and then their is denialism, which I have nothing but contempt for. And you are a denialist when it comes to gun control. To take your thinking to its logical conclusion, why have tax laws? If only one person cheats, then the laws don’t work, so let’s scrap them all. Same for rape or murder. What good is such legislation if even one woman gets raped or one person murdered? The laws must be failing us, therefore we don’t need them, right? This is the type of thinking that leads me to (correctly, not insultingly) compare you to Archie Bunker. And just for the record, I’ve driven on the autobahns in Germany. The fact that there is no upper speed limit certainly does keep the traffic moving, I’ll give you that. But what you conveniently fail to mention is how much stricter Germany’s (pesky) laws are when it comes to driver licensing and training and vehicle maintenance (which by rights shouldn’t even exist at all if they fail even once, right?) But of course they do, which is why I had to drive my uncle around when I visited, since he was an alcoholic and had been BANNED FOR LIFE from driving because of past transgressions. But why do that if the laws aren’t going to convince 100% of the population never to drive while intoxicated? You’re making this way too easy for me, man.
