LINK Mo Brooks Says Guns Needed in Case Government Ever Turns 'Dictatorial'

(His worry seems pretty foolish, if you consider the government has missiles, tanks and drones.)

Rep. Mo Brooks said this weekend that he would not support any new gun control restrictions, arguing that people would need their guns if they ever had to take back power from a "dictatorial" government.

"The Second Amendment is designed to help ensure that we, the citizenry, always have the right to take back our government should it become dictatorial," he said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday.

(So far, most attempts to move the U.S. towards a dictatorship have come from the right.)

Sounds like another 2 face repub running his mouth to con people into voting for him.

Our country was run by a tyrant in collusion with a hostile foreign government 2016-2020. The gun worshippers did nothing about it. It's another bullshit argument. The gunners want to overthrow the government of the people and replace it with the government of the greedy.

Most attempts? Shit, how many left wing attempts can anybody name? And don't count the 60s radical groups, because they were not interested in a dictatorship, they wanted some sort of socialist democracy. Hell, the main radical group was even called Students For A Democratic Society... To my knowledge, all the movements toward a dictatorship in the US have come from the right, including the coup attempt that was plotted against FDR, that very few Americans seem to know about... or Nixon's plan during Watergate to hold onto power with a military coup...

Guns? What kind of guns? Water guns? Pea shooters?

Republicans are idiots.

First off, we already have a fascist government that is run by corporations and an oligarchy, it's just that most Americans are too blind and brainwashed to see it, and most of the rest of the public is either demoralized and has given up on democracy and even on voting. The minority of Americans who are gun nuts and right wing fascists think they will be able to win a civil war against the cops and the military, but they are wrong to think they could win an actual serious war with the authorities, because they would still be outgunned and defeated by superior communications and organization. But what I'm more afraid of, is that the right wing militia types will not need to win such a civil war, all they would need to do is to start one and show they were serious and determined to win it, followed by mass defections and then support, or at least neutrality, by all or most members of the police and military. If that happens, it won't matter after that if most Americans still want elections or don't support the right wingers cause. We will be occupied and elections will no longer happen. And the majority of Americans left under hostile occupation will be unarmed and unsupported by the remaining cops and military. Game over for good.

In other words like Russia, China, Turkey, Egypt and many other African countries.

He thinks "Red Dawn" was real/possible, only I guess "Blue Dawn"?

So we need to start shooting at him to get gun law changes? Just asking.

I will! I will! And I have a Ton of firearm training, too....

@AnneWimsey why am I not surprised! 😁

I have wondered what would happen if a mass shooting happened at the NRA convention.

Ironically, the NRA bans all weapons from the meetings.

Still, I think sooner or later, a parent who lost a child or several children will target NRA officials as a way of showing guns can't really provide much protection.

If the right succeeds in moving the U.S. towards a dictatorship, what will we liberals and progressives do?

Well, if that happened, I see the right as Russia, and the left as Ukraine.

I never owned a gun myself, but back before I started losing vision (I am now partially blind), I could shoot 14 out of 15 into a one inch circle at 100 years. I doubt i am the only good shot on the left who simply isn't interested in gun culture.

@snytiger6 Gun culture, gun schmulture. A gun is a tool.

I was in the Korean War and at 91, I may let younger people choose their future.
