LINK 'Crying Indian' Ad to Be Retired, Rights Transferred to Native Group

I did not know until today that he was not Native American. 🤔

This was good.

Unfortunately, since those days things have only gotten worse. A new Netflix video "72 dangerous places to live" is scary as hell. In some places in Indonesia the waters are so polluted with garbage you can't even see the water. A recent report followed where people were moving to and most of the places were in areas most affected by climate change. Florida was one of the top destinations even though it is constantly hit by hurricanes and a lot of the state will be underwater in the coming decades. Housing prices are one motivation for people to move. The safer the location the more expensive the housing.

i think the article missed the othe big point, aside from the stereotyping and failure even to feature a native american.

the other big point was:

"The shift from Keep America Beautiful’s bland admonishments about litter to the Crying Indian did not represent an embrace of ecological values but instead indicated industry’s fear of them. In the time leading up to the first Earth Day in 1970, environmental demonstrations across the United States focused on the issue of throwaway containers. All these protests held industry — not consumers — responsible for the proliferation of disposable items that depleted natural resources and created a solid waste crisis. Enter the Crying Indian, a new public relations effort that incorporated ecological values but deflected attention from beverage and packaging industry practices"

Good move on that, it should be retired for the obvious reasons, and it's been well known for years now that Iron Eyes Cody was actually of Italian descent and not native indian-
