We’ve all seen enough science fiction movies to inspire our imaginations to the possibilities of the future. What scientific achievements and advancements do you hope to see in your life time?
I hope to see some good family planning to cut the human population down in a more realistic natural way for the good of all life on earth.
I want to see the cure for death and aging.
I want to see babies born without birth defects.
I want to see people who were tortured/neglected/mistreated to be healed again.
I want to see people who lost limbs or have other issues with their body to see those problems fixed with stem cells.
I want to see the overpopulation problem to be solved, along with the space problem, and natural resource problem.
I want to see the Earth to be safe from alien attackers.
Cures for cancer and other incurable diseases.
Efficient use of hydrogen, solar and wind for energy.
Manned missions to other planets.
(All possible in my lifetime)
More longevity, health, research such that aging is less of a thing and we are functional longer... that said, I'd like society to stop looking at the number that is a persons age and instead gauge how well the person will work in the job in question... ie: don't be ageist when considering an applicant. There are very few exceptions to this and, even in those cases, I'd have exceptions to those jobs:
Working in the police force as a computer technician or a lab technician should NOT require that one is youthful.
Working in the Military should be feasible if ones job is laboratory in nature: think cyber warfare specialist.
Working as an investigator for the Fire Department should be another place where age requirements are relaxed.
That sort of thing. I mean, imagine if we advance our health technology such that a person of 65 is, more or less, the same as the average person of 45 today... I think that people would (at least initially) tend to see the age and think 'too old' before knowing...
Edit: YEESH! Who typed this... I swear it could NOT have been me! Especially with only ONE drink under my belt.
I think there will be a lot more discovered in cosmology particularly regarding exoplanets in the near future.
That is a amazing new science. It has the long term survival of man kind in its future. Maybe someday our brothers and sisters will be the aliens.
Getting a bit late in the game for that.
I doubt there'll be any significant advances before I check out.
Stay tuned! There will be Action! Drama! Lives will be saved, and lives will be lost. Mankind will take steps never taken before, yet look to his past for comfort and stability. And as science marches ever forward, some will feel challenged and emboldened as they realize how little we know; yet others will cling to old notions and false gods, all while using their unfounded 'beliefs' to undermine provable facts.
And - on a related note - 'What will happen to our Caped Crusaders? Will Penguin finally sell their bodies as fish food? Will the Joker really get the last laugh? Stay tuned to find out - -same bat-time, same bat-channel!"
So, if you will forgive me - the future will be more of the same - one step forward, two steps back, as humanity desperately tries to destroy the only universe it has ever known.
I hope to see advancements in human gerontology. I would like to be able to live longer so that I can see more. I'll suffer more but I enjoy experiencing life. As an atheist, I don't believe in a heaven or hell and I don't believe in an afterlife. When I die, that's it. It goes back to being the way it was before I existed. Before I was born. And so I would like to stay in the game as long as possible. I'd like to see other inventions I couldn't even think of now. I'd also like to see answers to old age questions like those about consciousness and new solutions to paradoxes. CRISOR advancements would also be nice to see. What kind of progress in genetic engineering should be something special. And of course, AI and general tech innovations as well. Maybe the esteemed flying car lol also, the colonization of mars (Elon musk)
I am not very imaginative. If we look at what is now possible, we have cancer treatments and even some cancer vaccinations, I see these readily available for the wealthy. I also see the demise of fossil fuels, possible reuse of plastic back into oils, certainly electric cars being the standard. I also envisage some major social collapses, wealth being more and more concentrated and large portions of humanity left to perish with little assistance. I also expect some major epidemics if not a pandemic prior to 2050.
I think the future holds the extinction of man and within another 1000 years an earth green beyond imagination. As far as scientific achievements....2 day underwear.
Future events predicated on current conditions, situations and trends.
For people to live within their means with what is available to them on this planet i.e. sustainable living. To share relevant information rather than hide it and work together to improve things that can be made better. Oh yes, and a teleport system would be lovely. So a bit like the people on Star Trek, but start here first
I would like to see us colonize the entire universe. Build a Dyson sphere in our solar system and around other stars. Achieve fusion reactor technology. Concur faster then light travel. Watch humankind evolve into other species on other planets. Know before i pass that man kind will survive long after the last stars have long since burned out. But I could be happy just to see man exsplore titan, look for life on Europa and the other moons around jupiter. Or at least solve the energy problem on earth and realize a post scarcity civilization. I doubt that any one alive today will see any of these things but each of them are vary possible. What human kind can so today would make us seem like gods to the people of say 1000 years ago. And there really isn't anything we can't do if we're around in million years from now. Thanks for the chance to talk about my favorite passion (futerisum). I have a lot of faith in mankind's possibilities.
Can we get a shaving implement with 146 razors? How about a computer that runs twice as fast as today’s computers? That would be pretty amazing, but I’ll be dead long before that.
