A lot of the values behind these rules were lost and would be see as foreign today.

Most of these rule were done away with during the Reagan/Thatcher era, when it was decided they were just too expensive, and needed to be replaced with the worship of the bottom line and associated pragmatism.
"Greed is Good" the mantra of the 1980s, Decadence became a virtue, Charity became a dirty word, pity and compassion became signs of weakness. Empathy became a tool to spot weakness and exploit it,
"Do unto others as you would have done unto you", shifted to "Do over others before they do over you"
two generations on we have leaders like Boris and Trump, liberal is a dirty word, and a conservatism a synonym for Nazi-lite.
This is the point in history where "We and Our" give way to "MINE" and every empire, civilization and golden age has given way to war, conquest, chaos and and the fall of reason in favour of "might makes right"
Only in the past those players did not have world ending WMDs

Given the near absence of religious underpinning, this must have been the last gasp from the Enlightenment.

Sadly all of today's politicians the world round were not taught such standards & ethics. Furthermore many of the "rules" are designed to keep the students & when adult subservient to the notion of national superiority. In the case of USA that has sadly resulted in the arrogant attitude\ belief that the world outside of USA is there for Americans to bully, plunder, rob & subvert solely for American benefit. It is now being realised that very few Americans are included in the benefitting class.

It has been a long time since they stopped teaching ethics and morals in schools. I wish it would come back.

Including privilege classes, indemnity for child molestors, Jewish psycopaths, US destruction of other's freedoms & democracy . . . ?

@FrayedBear Every generation has positives and negatives. It would be nice to be able to keep the positives that would translate well into a new generation while working on something to replace the negatives with something more positive and productive. Ethics and moral values are the positives that would be nice to keep.

@Betty sadly ethics & morals are dependent upon the underlying agenda. If that agenda is colonisation, subjugation, obliteration of alternative culture\way of life it will be very moral & ethical to achieve it by any means. . . Just look at the various religious inquisitions that have occurred throughout history, the political pogroms still occurring today & recently enacted in America following genocide Joe being inaugurated.
Tolstoy a long time ago said something like "the key to a successful life is to not raise your head above the parapet" & this is what much of the world has ended up legislating that its citizens actually do - hence the pejorative term of sheeple for people, the crackdown on whistleblowers like Assange & Snowden, the censorship now occurring in Western press. . .

@FrayedBear As I said...It would be nice.

Sounds great, except for lynchings and segregation and keeping women as chattel......

I must have fallen asleep at that part of the video. Also the bit that says all pre menstrual or menopausal women, me too-ers & those carrying foetuses are sane.

@FrayedBear It may not have been in the video, but all of it was actively going on during the same time period.

At the time it was not only legal to spread rumors, there were rumor agencies one could hire to spread them.
