Regardless of Politics, I believe the vast majority of Americans agree that our government is pretty much fucked.
Will we fix it? Can we? Or will we fall like the Roman Empire?
Looks grim to me. Capitalism is inherently problematic and monied interests have a death grip on our republic. I remain hopeful that another generation will do better but with a failing public education system, I think that the "public" is vulnerable to political platitudes and campaign promises that are never realized.
Too many questions to answer.
The poll needs to be refined to only one question.
That said, all civilizations rise and fall. We are not immune. It's probably going to take
a while though. I see this as the beginning of the end.
that's what i think. which question are we voting on?
@markdevenish I didn't vote on any of them. There were four questions.
Thanks for the input. I fixed the title. Sorry, I tend to edit and re-edit
There is still more than one person that thinks Democratic Socialism is horrible, so yeah I'm still fence sitting on whether or not humans will making it another 1000 yrs.
@Ringo6 what Ringo6 said
More like we should go the route of France and behead those 1% who think the poor should eat cake.
could you imagine the police and army turning against their masters.? . only if the u s govt becomes unable to pay them with anything meaningful might this happen [ see inflation]
We are in a mess and I'm not sure what will unite us in any small fashion. Maybe if we get the blood suckers out of our congress and the idiot out of the white house we can make some headway. I think many people want to see common sense reign but somehow we manage to let 30% of the population make the rules. So VOTE And then work on a way to get rid of the Electoral College
I don't see a way out of our current predicament.
Will it fail? If you haven't noticed it failed years ago.
The first issue that we have to contend with globally is making people understand that what have been touted as democracies in general have proven to be anything but. The "democratic" system has simply become a front for empire and resource grabbing and regime changes. I think people need to go back to the Greeks and figure out what it means to be democratic.
"The system is rigged!" I'm afraid we can no longer fix the system within the system. The top 1% has gotten too much control already.
I see the only solution is establishing an alternate political system and an alternate economic system. Sort of like a government in exile or more like underground. Then shifting over to that. We need an economic system that does away with money - which the billionaire class controls. Maybe going to Bit Coin or some other system that is controlled by the people.
Before you post a yes or no answer to a poll, perhaps you should pose 1 question. History has shown that the political pendulum will swing back. We need to vote on all measures in every election. State government is as important as federal.
Ah thanks. The perils of over-editing. I've fixed it
Like any empire, we will eventually fall. Our population to bureaucrat is close to the Ottoman Empire when it fell in the early 1900's. I believe we are heading towards our demise, but how long it will take is not clear. Certainly we are much stronger than the Ottomans in 1900, so I don't think our end is near. As far as land mass, the Roman Empire was at it's largest in 117 CE and slowly deteriorated over the next 400 years. However the British Empire was at its peak around 1920. WW2 took care of most of that. So who knows how close we really are.
I’m pretty sure we’re doomed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have good time, right?
that is the american dream in a nutshell
This is not a Democracy and the designers of our political system took special care to prevent it becoming a Democracy. It has decayed as a Republic because they were not quited thorough enough. One safeguard that has backfired and made our system more Democratic; thus more toward organized mob rule was amending the Constitution to allow Senators to be elected at large instead of being chosen by their respective state legislatures.
Now Senators have to join the lying contest and compromise themselves to financial interests like the whoring people's 'representatives' in the House. What's the point? Now the Democrat rabble want to do away with another protection called the Electoral College.
It was well known by all educated people at the time of this nation's birth, that Democracies were doomed to fail. Today, the undereducated, indoctrinated fools turned out by our alleged system of public education worship the ideas of both Democracy and Collectivism; neither of which work or support a thriving economy or personal liberties.
Yes, we're doomed. Only a matter of time.
It's set up to correct itself, but I doubt it will.
I am glad I won't see the worst yet to come.
I think anyone who lived through the 1960's saw the peak before it receded from view, regardless the good or bad in store.
There's still hope, but it's dwindling. If millenials don't take off their VR glasses on occasion and get involved in politics, monsters like the ones who are currently infiltrating our government and slowly eroding the power of the people to choose their representatives will take full control of every single aspect of every single persons lives. And they'll do so without a fight.
So far as we know, every nation falls from power eventually. The United States is my number one choice to live in (granted more information could change my mind, and not all parts of it are equal), but it does seem to still have some massive structural problems insofar as the government goes.
We have too many leaders. Democracy is not about leaders, it is about the people. We do not need the present strutcure, it is helplessly corrupt. The people need to transform the process to give responsibility for what happens to each and every one of us, working together in collaboration, not follership Representative government is a bad joke, and the punch line is Fascism with we aren't careful. But first, democrats in 2018, and Bernie in 2020 - then maybe we can get back on track.
No vote but all empires are doomed to disolve.
not too much we can do except be kind to our neighbors.....other than that....it's seems as if the whole world is turning into a turd pool. I would NOT want to be young again. When I die, I don't want to come back.
Actually since the united state is actually a republic not really a Democracy, it will correct its self, always has and always will. Some times it needs a little push, but in the end it corrects itself.
