How do you handle being gawked at by either complete strangers or just people you could know?

I am a 51 year old tall fat ginger woman, I don't get gawked at.

@amisja Rubenesque Titian tressed siren, please ! Would love to have red hair......

I check to see if my fly is open. Then I check to see if their fly is open. After that, looks, I feel, are free. If I choose to take offense, then I am the one who suffers. Usually I choose not to take offense (other than to check for any outre social faux pas). 🙂

I don't give a flying fuck

What he said.

I only fuck while still... never while sailing through the air. 🙂

Hahaha! I like that! “I don’t give a flying fuck!”

@AmiSue it's all good

I am a 64 year old woman (geeze am I really that old, fuck) with short, white/gray hair.....I am invisible to the world.

@Shelton Ha Ha....maybe. Looking at my comment it really does appear that I am looking for a pity party. But it is true, generally speaking, as a female, the older you get the more invisible you become. This is something I have heard from many women. It can be both a good and a bad thing. 😀

@Shelton My feeling is that being older generally makes you invisible..it can be applied to both men and women (although more so, I think, towards women who are more critically assessed) and I don't know if it is even about being attractive. Having said that it is encouraging that perhaps more men (than I thought) still find older women attractive. 👍

I should be used to it by now. It's been decades. I've grown older and more blunt so now I just call them on it

If a woman is staring I do what any gentleman would do. I offer to autograph her boobs. If it's a guy staring I tell him it was my twin brother. ?

Eeeek! Lol. That's terrible.

@Ellatynemouth
To be fair he is sort of a dick. ?

Occasionally I stare back. For the most part I just ignore people. As a paraplegic in a relatively small town I guess Someone in a wheelchair is a "oddity." If it's a kid, I will smile and engage them, I don't want them to grow up to be staring idiots like their parents.

They can't help it, I'm so puuurdee. hahaha!

I don’t mind it. I remind myself that taking offense or feeling uncomfortable is evolutionary behavior developed to respond to threats. In most cases, no threat is posed.

@Donotbelieve
I understand. I don’t feel threatened most times but unfortunately for women, many times the perception of danger is real.

If I'm being harassed by strangers, including phone harassment and stalking, I'll use a multi-functional cell phone jammer to stop it. jammer-buy store buy one.

2

It depends why someone is being gawked at. I would love to be gawked at for being beautiful lol

Not had the experience, but my daughter dyed her hair green last year, and had cascades of verdant green locks for about six months. She replied to gawkers by smiling sweetly back and usually had them look away awkwardly in turn. But she did it in the expectation of being a person of interest, so took it in her stride. Bit different if you are not inviting attention.

I ignore it.
I'm used to being stared at, photographed, etc.

2

I ignore them. My eyesight is very poor, and anyone who knows me, knows they must walk up and speak to be noticed. I just scan past faces in public.

1

If it goes on long enough I face their direction and grab my crotch really noticably. That usually turns their heads any other direction.

1

If you like them say hello and if you don't saw hello anyway and watch them run away!LOL

Just give them a look like they are the most idiotic thing you’ve ever seen.

I don't like people gawking at me.

1

Tell my self yup I still got it I'm one sexy son of a bitch

1

Makes me uncomfortable, some people like it,
2 ex's of mine had purple hair at times, one of them had a purple mohawk, my daughters partner has bright blue hair, some people seem to like the attention.

When you are as beautiful as me it is just expected. I don't mind being attractive. It is only natural people "gawk" at me. When I was in China (5 years ago when I was 65 years old!) women would stop me in the street and ask if they could have their photo taken with me. Just remember that people respond to you if you are beautiful on the inside because it shines through the way you carry yourself. Just smile and/or say "Hello"! Your shine might make their day brighter.

Well hell...... I dropped my other comment.... I thought it was what's been going on with me lately.
If someone is staring at me... it depends who he or she is. If it's an ass hole at work ...I stare back. That's pretty much all they got so i give it back to them till they finally look away. If it's a female I'm going to trip up and fall down because that's never happened to me but once when i lost a lot of weight and had a whole new appearance. I took a test at work that looking at a female more then 2 seconds of eye time is staring. If no one sees me then I can look all day. But if I'm caught... i am supposedly undressing her in my mind which is a load of crap.

Gawk strait back. You might be lucky and get a date, then enter into a relationship, then get married, have kids and live happily ever after ? Don't knock it ?

I try to hide because I always think they're starting in horrified fascination at something so ugly. BDD is a helluva illness.

What's BDD if you don't mind me asking?

@goldenvalleyguy, @smoyle Body Dysmorphic Disorder. It's a mental illness where one literally thinks they're hideous, to the point where it can change what one sees in the mirror and/or in photos. It's closely related to OCD in a way and to anorexia nervosa in a different way.

@memorylikeasieve I see, thank you. You're right, that does sound like e bummer.
