Do you think autistic people are more likely to be agnostic?
I am more agnostic Atheist becase of the many cases of autism.
From what I have read , it appears to be the case that those of us on the autistic spectrum tend towards either atheism , what seems to me to be a sort of religious naturalism [en.m.wikipedia.org] , or like me take a more neutral nuanced view and are agnostic . [huffingtonpost.com] Here is the evidence from a research study [csjarchive.cogsci.rpi.edu] . P.S. Though I concede that one should not be quick to judge another's motives , I suspect that those on the spectrum whom do profess a religion are more drawn to the dogma than the deity .
No, they latch on to strong convictions so either are VERY religious or VERY areligious.
I'm not sure, a lot of autistic people have a learning disability (not sure if it's disproportionate compared to NTs) so would not necessarily have the processing ability to come to a reasoned conclusion but that would be due to the learning disability not the autism.
It's also not unreasonable to assume that a lot of people have a belief due to their upbringing and autistic people would be the same.
Conclusion......I haven't the foggiest idea but it's an interesting topic
yes, for they are quite literal in their thinking. they could never accept biblical stories as truth
If we lack a convincing counter narrative , we actually will be inclined to accept at face value whatever our parents , and other adults in our lives tell us . Since at that age we would have lacked maturity of mind , same as anyone else , we committed the authority fallacy , even without really understanding it . We simply took for granted that the grown ups knew best . Also , I was made to memorize this Bible passage [biblegateway.com] . So it wasn't until my teens that this other verse became an ironic reality [biblegateway.com] , and I became an agnostic , and some time later more so an atheist .
Yes. In my Aspergers support group, four of the six of us are atheists/agnostics.
