What I believe Autistic Culture Should Look Like......

1-Try to be as inquisitive as possible where there might be an accusation or assumption you are likely to make, presuppositions are a huge problem for autistics to suffer from, therefore autistic culture should be highly inquisitive as to set said example to non-autistics.

2-Always hold civility and rationality over popular opinion, popular opinion has wrongfully branded many of us negatively, therefore it only makes sense that our culture act in defiance towards such.

3-Advocate and praise means of harmless self-expression..... don't encourage the suppression of such, learn what semantics are and know that no words are inherently harmful and that the context a word is used in is what matters.

4-Don't act in malice or directly decieve another human being, those who rely on body language rather than virtues of: openness, honesty, and straightforwardness should not be encouraged, their deception and disregard for our existence needs to be called out for what it is. The only deception you are allowed to act with are forms of deception that punish others for their lack of inquiry such as the use of double meanings and questions, in other words.... you may only lead them to decieve themselves through their tendency to jump to conclusions rather than accept that they don't know everything and act with that knowledge.

5-Know yourself, spend much of your time getting to know yourself as knowing yourself is essential for disciplines required by the processes of maturity.

6-Practice Stoicism when it comes to anger, hatred, and jealousy.... know that these emotions can be gotten rid of and acknowledge the harm to our image that those who have acted through said emotions have caused. Know that sorrow can motivate, as can discomfort, as can the love for another.... there is no pragmatic use for anger. Think regularly on what all it means for the world to not revolve around you or how you feel and take it with acceptance rather than reacting to moments that represent that reality by lashing out or allowing your mind to become chaotic and disorganized. Accept what you can't change, and change what you can within reason.

Agree 100%. I'm NT (my son is ASD level 2) and I practice number 6. I love that - "there is no practical use for anger". Although I might argue that the realization of injustice can begin in anger. But practical action can only come after it's subsidence.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
