My 12 year old and I were discussing how dark it was at 6 pm these days, and he was coming up with some reasons to look at this in a positive way. Specifically because it's cozier when he gets in the hot tub when it's dark (the hot tub is amazing for kids like him - he is absolutely addicted to it.) I told him that I was going to have to start thinking like him and have a more positive outlook on things and maybe I'll be a happier person!

He looked at me and said, 'Mom, you're always happy.' That really struck me to hear that from him! Even though life is always soooo overwhelming, that kid always sees a good side of me. THAT made me happy

Of course today he put his fist through the wall. Because we couldn't decide what to have for dinner and he was stressed about a social studies portfolio. So there's that...

Autism is a different intelligence and in this world saying it's not a handicap is ridiculous but the fact is it shouldn't be viewed that way. In all the years of working with autistic children, they have taught me things from a perspective I'm blind to until they point it out.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
