A friend of mine on Facebook - another mom with a more severely autistic child - posted that she was outraged that Pinterest is now censoring anti-vaxxer content on their site because it causes 'self harm.'
My thoughts? Way to go Pinterest. I'm not for censorship (!!!) but this anti-vaccination stuff really gets my goat. Thoughts?
It's a common logical fallacy for people to assign a cause and effect relationship when things happen close together in time. And since there was a relationship with something in vaccines (thiomersal) and abnormal fetal brain development it was pulled from most all of them by 2001. But multiple studies have been done and no link to autism was ever established and the scientific community in general has rejected the idea that there is any link. But, what I think is happening is that autistic behavior often becomes much more apparent around the same age that vaccines are be given. So people associate the two and then hear about the old vaccine issue without really understanding or researching it.
My favorite is when they post memes about how there are more deaths now due to vaccine injury than due to the illness that the vaccine is treating - therefore vaccines are bad. How is that even logical???
I agree, I have explained to several parents of ASC offspring that there is a correlation only with the vaccination time and that of ASC displaying itself naturally. And in the UK the figures currently show that slightly more ASC children are in the unvaccinated population. Given more time and larger sample sizes to study, then ASC will be equal in both groups.
