I'm constantly worrying about all my kids' future, especially my son on the spectrum. I would find any words from some of you on the spectrum who have a relatively happy adult life very encouraging. I fully understand that being on the spectrum is not necessarily a hindrance to this, but as a parent I find it very hard not to be scared that his life will be very difficult.

I am a support worker in the field. Today I had a most amazing double shift. The person took the lead in most matters and needed little intense support.
We had an excellent time

My daughter is classically autistic and is one of the happiest people I know. She's 24 and a ball of sunshine. She's in a work program that she really likes. Best part of my life.

Thanks

I am not on the spectrum. I am the Special Education Director for a school system. I have many students with ASD. The best advice I can give you is to love your son unconditionally and let him know that. Then make sure he gets all the supports he needs to live as full a life as he is able. I am not sure how severe he is on the spectrum but I can tell you that life is a lot easier now for people with ASD then it use to be.

He was originally diagnosed as being level 2 but he's been getting therapy for 3 years and has since been referred to as "high functioning". He's made a huge amount of progress and is very intelligent. Other than a very low tolerance for frustration and reacting extremely to it (but recovering quickly) and occasional strange noises his behavior is typical for someone not on the spectrum.

Thank you

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
