I have a 22 yr high functioning autistic son. I just found this group, it’s great to share ideas! My son had severe OCD, his hand washing is the most problematic, after touching anything! He washes, no matter where we are or what we are doing he will have a melt down if he can’t wash. So, he stays in his sterile room most of the day.
I just love him so much, and I’m at my wits end

Are you aware of a distraction action known as 'polish on, polish off'? It's similar to the well known action from Karate Kid, hence the name.

@Sharkymama It's a hands on distraction usually used with conversation. As the subject is trying to carry an OCD activity, you gently take hold of a wrist or hand and commence a circular movement either inward or outwards. This redirects their energy, and from there you can often direct them to move on.
I used it on Saturday night at work successfully.

I'll reply by message, as going further can effect his confidentiality and privacy.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
