What is your best piece of safety advice for fellow riders? Mine is to avoid blind spots as much as possible and ride slightly faster than traffic to keep sight lines and options open.
Go...
Always ride your own ride and ATGATT are the two main, but avoiding Caffeine and staying hydrated are big deals too. Also two fingers on the clutch & Front brake at all times
Head on a swivel. Don't speed in the city. Cover your front brake!
Awesome advise.. we did that test in school.
ATGATT and stay out of the blind spot is a good rule of thumb. And if you can, get a helmet camera.. l've heard stories of them saving peoples butts in court..
Pay attention and take responsibiltiy for your own safety - assume you are invisible to other road users.
Always plan an escape route and prepare to yeild if necesssary.
There is no credit shouting "But I had right of way" from your hospital bed...
I always tell new riders to imagine they are playing Tomb Raider, where you cannot trust anyone or anything. People are are out to kill you all the time and you can't trust the ground beneath your feet or objects falling into your path, etc.. The difference is you only get one life on a bike. The message seems to sink in and makes them think.
Don't let people Wave you through, stop signs, left turns, etc. It's not their place to let you go when you shouldn't be going. Right of way goes, period. I've seen too many incidents where someone waves a driver through and they end up in an accident, hitting a pedestrian, getting hot from behind, etc.
I hate that shit, I wish people would just follow the rules of the road.
