Why do news stories often highlight certain people in the headline? I find this very strange.
Does is matter whether someone is a mom, an RCMP officer or 17? People were brutally murdered. The devastation is the same.

Making the victim(s) more relatable is part of Journalism 101. Whether we agree with the tactic or not is personal, but it’s a hook.This, too, shall change as it becomes more or less accepted.
I agree it's a hook. I find it really insensitive when there are other victims whose loss is equally tragic.
We saw this when Coby died.. the other victims were always "and others." He was a recognized celebrity, but in the case of mentioning the age or occupation of regular people it seems irrelevant unless it's to grab more eyeballs.
Can't even imagine the families.
It is such a tragedy for all the families and the province, so senseless, What sets some off like this,obviously it was planned at least part of it and the rest was helter skelter sounds like he was well off Denturist and 2 other propertys in Halifax and 3 another place ?

Despite not knowing the impetus for the shooter’s rampage, I can’t help feeling guilty that the States have been a bad example of “land of the free and the home of the brave” to those who watch. I wish the media would stop showing the shooter—it gives notoriety where none is deserved. Instead, do as other media have done when possible—show us the victims instead. They should be remembered.

Agreed , those who take upon themselves to this disgraceful type of act , should be blotted out; honor the victims. the name of the perpetrator is all we need to know and that’s about it , it seems to me it’s a last ditch effort for the perp to leave a mark on the world and I think it’s BS the way the media seemingly centers it around them .
Sad, outraged,....those poor people, & their families!
