I am Canadian
The only time I talk politics, with this one brief exception, is when I vote. My vote says everything I need or want to say. The unfortunate part of that is I don't vote within the political status quo so like others similar to my thinking our votes have so far gotten washed away in the slush pile but someday...Now, having said that politicking has become inherently corrupt and even those who start out in a more honest mode become corrupt, not on purpose but just by the nature of politics. So I think the whole structure of leadership needs tearing down and changed radically. To accomplish this some one or a group of folks wiser than me need to take up the challenge
The game is rigged and the deck is stacked, the table is tilted - still I go out and vote and take active steps to live my life in a way that promotes a more humane approach to life. We do what we can, when and where we can but the system itself is not designed for progressive change.
I wonder if democracies like ours really work or if they're rigged and hijacked by global corporate and financial forces many times more powerful than our governments. Money forces than can actually buy entire governments and rewrite laws and international treaties to their own advantage.
I think that people like you and me have things more powerful than our voting ballots. Our wallets and our feet. Our wallets that can potentially change the face of the world every time we buy something. Will we encourage the little guy or the mega multinational? Will we encourage ethics or greed, clean environment or pollution? Our feet that can take us to activist groups, to street protests, to work for real progress.
