In the TV series Star Trek The Next Generation, one of my favorite scenes is where Data, the android, is trying to train his pet cat, Spot. It seems that even those who imagine interplanetary travel can't imagine a cat can be trained.
Actually, that cats aren't trainable is completely untrue. I volunteer at a place called Simply Cats, and in the last year, have trained numerous cat with the Jackson Galaxy Cat Pawsitive Pro program. We teach them to sit, high five, high ten, sit pretty, spin, weave through cones, and ring a bell on command. We usually begin with very simple things, like eye contact or nose bump. But cats are definitely trainable.
Thanks for making them more adoptable!
I used to work on film sets, and yes I know cats are trainable, as they trained cats to do what was needed for films and TV shows. If the cat was a significant part of the plot as in the "Stuart Little" movies, then they would use multiple look alike cats with each one trained to do different things.
