At this point, everyone is probably wondering, How many cats does she have?!?!?
But I want to introduce you to my feral kitties. I rescue cats, and adopt out the ones that are adoptable. These guys have never become friendly enough to be adopted but they also have nowhere to go (their colonies are gone; rescues are all full). They came from different places but have become their own colony.
Morgan, black and white male, is the most friendly of them all but still doesn't like to be picked up and can get skittish.
Colin, short haired orange tabby male with brown spots, is not afraid of us but doesn't like to be touched or held.
Rupert, grey tabby male with one bum ear, used to be very skittish but he's gotten friendlier and sometimes likes a bit of petting, though he can't be picked up or touched for long.
Turtle, torbie female, I trapped on my property when she was pregnant. She is Salem's mom. She is semi-friendly but still a little skittish.
Breeze, long haired orange female, came from our friend's property when she was pregnant. She is Tiger's mom. She is very skittish and would rip our faces off if we try to touch her or pick her up.
Juliette, short haired beige female, is Breeze's cousin from the same colony. She is the most skittish of any of them, and we can't even get close to her or touch her.
In case anyone wonders, yes they are all spayed/neutered now. They live a cushy easy life with toys, perches, scratching posts, lots of windows to watch the outside world, high end cat food. Since we invested so much in them out of pocket, I didn't want to throw them back outside where there are natural risks and dangers to their lives. All my cats are strictly indoors. I just live in a big house.
I have just 2 indoor cats now, & they are both socialized, tho they were both strays. I have up to 6 feral in the backyard, all "fixed". They are fed the same as the indoor cats, they have beds, a 'condo', an airy 'hut' & always dry food & water available. Don't really think I could bring any but one of them inside without major issues, so we do what we can.
We cannot bring anymore into our house. There are strays and ferals out there on our property. There are a lot of places for safe shelter so we mostly just provide food. Not everyone is in the position to do what I do. I wouldn’t recommend it for most people in fact.
You're an angel to those kitties.
And I’m not even a cat person. LOL. I used to say I was being punished by the cat gods for not liking cats.
@graceylou You are a cat person now, you are the person providing for the cats.
@HippieChick58 The cats chose me. We have a stray cat problem and many ferals around here as people don’t really take care of their cats and don’t spray/neuter them. There’s also a lot of people abandoning cats and kittens on our rural properties. We don’t have the same issues with stray dogs. One of my dogs was a stray/lost dog. A lot of effort was made to find the owner but after months still nothing.
