Dandelions. Ugh. I have seen a rush on social media bleating *Please don't kill the dandelions, the bees need them". In truth, bees prefer other things. Besides, there are enough dandelions in the school yard near me to feed every honey bee in Colorado. I admire their resilience.

They are a medicinal bounty having more vitamin C than citrus.. The root has anti oxidant properties & a tea made from the root can vanquish an infectious cold. The leaves can be cooked like spinach & the young tenders in salad. The indigo buntings eat the seeds. Pollinators love them. I used to see Polish immigrants ( I assume legal =0} )
digging them in the park for dinner. People who hate them usually want a pristine lawn. The lawn is a sterile wasteland good for nothing except running barefoot upon. My guinea pig relishes them & I relish not having to buy him food.

My rattie loves my yard too! This is back in March before everything greened up 
I love them....all those happy yellow disks in my yard.....

@GuyKeith what a waste of money. I believe in permaculture. You have been brainwashed to believe that you need a lawn that looks a certain way to water, mow, water, mow, water, mow....and for what?? Useless.

@GuyKeith My point --- which is over your head and on the wall behind you --- is that your hatred of dandelions and desire to kill them with chemicals is based on a mass delusion that you must control and maintain your yard in an unnatural manner which is neither good for the earth or the insects, birds, worms, squirrels, etc. Colony Collapse is a real thing from which honey bees are suffering...but they aren't the only beings who suffer by humans desire to create an unnatural expanse of green.

@Blindbird It is amazing how hostile everyone has become over a common weed. I have personally attacked no one, but I can't say the same about some of the replies to me.
@GuyKeith what on earth do you expect coming into a group that enjoys dandelions and sees "lawn maintenance" as the destructive waste of time it is? You walk in like " I really hate the thing you all enjoy" and are surprised we're pissed at you? Do you not see the obnoxiousness of that???? Are you that blind to the repercussions of your attitude?
@Blindbird I just re-read the description and didn't see anything where loving dandelions was a requirement for posting in this group. In the plains and high deserts grasslands are essential to prevent dust bowl conditions. Broadleaf invasive weeds shade out grasses and compete for nutrients and moisture. Defending these things with such irrational passion is bizarre. My comment was a lark but with all the blowback, I may just dig in on this one. No pun intended.
