Originally from Alabama, but have spent the past 3 decades in Canada. Appalled that so many folks back home tried to tell me that my mom's agonizing death from cancer was "part of God's Plan"!

's plan sucks! That's what the bible thumpers said to me when my niece was killed in a tornado. Her mother put her in the bathtub and lay on top of her. As that louder than a freight train deafening roar of death and destruction got closer and louder they prayed to Jesus n His Father-self thing for all they were worth. Flying glass, nails dishes,metal,plastic......debris is what kills most people in a Tornado. It is not quick or painless. It is a nightmare. "Jesus has a plan for Kristen"They said. has a plan for everyone and everything happens according to 's plan". That's what they told me. I told them to tell their to $$ck off! &&;k him his plan and the sway back mule they rode in on. If the sumbitch wasn't a figment of your imagination I'd blow his head off of his damn shoulders. Don't spit that gibberish at me again. They haven't. I don't miss them. Pretty sure the feeling is mutual.

Ps. I live in Alabama still.

I'm so sorry that you lost your mother - especially in that way!

I think people feel such a need to offer some comfort after a loss that they say things that they don't really think through.

(What part of Alabama? I'm originally from Gadsden.)

Tarrant, B'ham, S'cauga, Weog~ka. I worked for a local newspaper in Rockford at one point, and lived in Dothan and Opelika as a child. Does "Atl" stand for Atlanta? I've lived there, too, in L5P. Loved that city - but all my friends there have scattered to the 4 winds.

Yep, I'm in Atlanta. Been here for most of 40 years now, but I still have lots of relatives in Alabama.

I would be equally appalled and offended.
