You raise an interesting point in regards to the prevalence of abuse. Are the US clergy worse for sexual abuse as compared to other countries? With the Catholics being so “open” about this problem, it would be difficult to determine.

@Science-guy I think because of Cardinal Law's involvement in covering it up - and the Boston Globe in breaking the story - it seems very New England Centric in my mind.

I know other countries have been effected and have played "hide the pedophile priest" etc.. Ireland and Australia both come to mind .

We had one pedophile priest for the boys in my hometown and one for the girls. (Massachusetts) in the Worcester diocese) so I always think - "there they go again those fecking morons" whenever one of the Bishops says something this profoundly idiotic.

It's about as nice as I can manage when I think of what they did to people's lives.
They should not ever be the ones pointing fingers.

@Science-guy There are plenty of pervs in the fundamentalist and evangelical clergy. The virulently homophobic are invariably caught with male prostitutes...pastors raping daughters(and getting barely a sentence because of how godly they are), pedophilia, affairs. In the church I was dragged to as a child, the pastor was fired when it came out he was sexually involved with some women he was giving marriage counseling to. Not to mention the child marriage, and coerced carrying of pregnancy. Oh yeah, and forgive/marry the rapist who impregnated you.
One famous televangelist was Jimmy Swaggart. Many are caught with female sex workers, too.

@CarolinaGirl60 Yup read recently about a father forcing his daughter (Underage) to marry her rapist because she became pregnant. That's nuts.

I do know terrible things go on in the name of religion everywhere - it's a great cover. I've cautioned every person I know with children who attend a church of that fact. Do not let them be alone with those adults.
