United Methodist Church proposes official split over lgbtq+ inclusion. Shall we have some fun speculating on new names for each branch? They will certainly need to drop the "United" claim.

I've a friend who is Methodist - she prides herself on the inclusivity of her church. This is not gonna make her happy. (I saw it coming).
They'd have been better off saying "Well you've lost your right to call yourselves Methodists then". And made the ones who are haters into something else entirely.
I guess it is a question of who can successfully claim authority to make such naming decisions.
You make a very good point about the United part. Briefly in my late 20s I considered becoming an Methodist. So, glad I avoided that train wreck.
There are some good people in that church, as well as others. ....and then there are the moralizing hypocritical power-hungry assholes. Religion is truly what one makes of it, for good or ill. I just don't buy the fairytale, despite being raised in that bubble.
When church groups turn actively political, that is a whole separate and serious reason to oppose them.
