What matters to me most? That a Christian clings to a ridiculous fairy tale even if finding a way to love and respect diverse people? ...or that the same person is convinced by factual reality to abandon religion?
Personally, as much as the latter appeals to me, it is the former I care about most. If it leads to the person becoming an atheist, that is an added bonus, but it is the former that actually effects me and others, certainly other queer people.
