It's hopeless. Should sane gun laws ever be instigated, we've got so many guns in America the new laws would be moot.
They would have to be made very harsh, say 3 to 5 years in jail no parole for possession of an illegal gun, maybe more. Any crime committed with a gun would really have to be tough. Most people would do the buy back and most of the ones keeping them in defiance will have those buried so deep in their house no one would ever see it. It would take time but you could cut way down on a lot of the gun ownership and violence. IMO
I rarely say something is hopeless. But after Sandyhook, I gave up. If that didnt change anyone's mind nothing will.
That is also how I felt. If they had shown those dead children on the news I believe it might have triggered real change. Americans have to actually see the results. The showing of what really happens in a war on the six o'clock news five days a week changed the support for that war. They didn't show those things on the news reals in WWll and the Korean War.
I totally agree, which is why I keep pushing us to look at alternative ways of reducing gun violence....
