I have very mixed feelings about these "red flag" laws. Regardless, someone's guns were just confiscated.
I personally am against these red flag laws the way they are written. It gives the officers and others involved too much discretionary power when it comes to taking people's firearms.
Have hardline parameters that justify the seizure of the weapons. There are good cops and there are bad cops. Too much room for abuse of power the way they are set up.
My father-in-law suffered from dementia. When things began to look grim, his wife asked the police to remove the guns from the home, but was told they couldn't. Nice to see this law exercised.
@SeaGreenEyez she contacted the police because she wanted them gone, not just in someone else's arsenal.
I’m glad this is happening. To many innocent people are murdered by people who should not be allowed to own a gun.
@SeaGreenEyez It sounds like it was used for the intended purpose and did some good in this particular case but your apprehension about this law is well placed. I wouldn't be surprised if this law ends up being applied more heavily on minorities as all the other laws are.
