Gun Violence Is A Public Health Crisis - EXTENDED CUT
Do One F@%king Thing About Guns!!
We Can End Gun Violence
Yes, this is and has been a national epidemic but it has been allowed to continued by too many citizens who have let certain self-serving groups brainwash them into thinking this is some sort of fundamental right. More of us need to give (I do, to two gun control groups) and notify our legislators we want this to stop. People and their legislators need to be in our sights and our bullets need to be money and votes.
Gun ownership is not a "fundamental" right as you put it, but there is this thing called the Second Amendment. The Supreme Court has ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees Americans the right to own a gun. Therefore the right is Constitutional, not "fundamental" whatever that is supposed to mean.
Whether you agree with the Supreme Court's decision is irrelevant, they rule on law, you don't.
Don't think that what I typed thus far indicates I oppose gun control. I have no such opposition. As an example, I don't understand why anyone would want to own an AR-15. The point I am trying to make is dancing around this issue by confusing the issue by implying "a fundamental right" actually impinges on the issue accomplishes nothing.
@Alienbeing By 'fundamental' right I am speaking about those gun nuts who think it is another of their god-given rights. Both the 2nd amendment and the Supreme court state that gun ownership can be regulated.
@JackPedigo I never said or implied that the Supreme Court ruling forbid regulation, why did you bring that up? Of course ownership can be regulated, and it is.
@Alienbeing I try not to read between the lines. The comment that "the Supreme Court has ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees Americans the right to own a gun" sounds, to me like it is final with no restrictions. Communication is not exact and we/I often have to watch how we phrase things.
@JackPedigo True, these posts, and Email in general, is not the best method of communication.
As respects gun ownership, I think the most effective regulations are on the individual, not the gun, although as I previously stated, I don't see why anyone would want to own an AR-15.
@Alienbeing Of course, I agree on both counts.
Maybe somebody could draft a bill that says it's all about salmonella and spinach, while the content actually addresses gun concerns.
