A Republican Mormon gun enthusiast, 23 year Marine career, in a very conservative part of Oregon, Judge....just disseminated the nonsense rhetoric in all of America, regarding safe and sane gun laws and the 2nd Amendment.
He goes even further than that, by calling out police unions and gun lobbyists, white supremacy, extremism, etc. It's quite remarkable. Too bad he's an anomoly.
In-part:
“In other words,” Egan writes in a devastating concurring opinion, Smith “came before this court and referenced UN mandates, which … is a well-documented trope meant to invoke white supremacist, antisemitic fear of a takeover of our country by outsiders and minorities who are manipulated by an elite class of supervillains.”
Egan is a 66-year-old conservative Mormon from Albany, the former chairman of the Republican Party in Linn County. He has 23 years of military service in the Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, and the U.S. Army Reserve, including a year-long deployment to Kuwait in 2008.
His familiarity and comfort level with firearms? On his first birthday after returning from his judge advocate post at Camp Arifjan, his wife, Michelle, presented him with a Beretta M-9.
But Egan is damn uncomfortable when the Second Amendment conspiracy crowd attempts “to give legal foundation to a world view that embraces religious, racial, and ethnic hatred.”
