Guns don't kill people neither does drugs. It is the people using it. are we against drugs? We crack down on it because people die. We do not crack down on gun owners and people die. Compare how safe it is in countries where people are not allowed to have guns with the US. Gun control must be very tough. Only own with a heavy background check. Don't carry them hidden on the streets. Keep them in a safe locked up and have the government randomly check on people. I worked in law enforcement abroad. You did not have to be nervous to approach someone, less stress and a safer society. Never had to draw a gun or came into a situation that I needed one. We should crack down on gun control as as we do on drugs. You don't loose any of your freedoms If you don't carry a gun. Make the streets safe again.

Yea people do kill l people, but were helping them do it! And only when it happens to you or your love ones do you recognize that we have to get guns out of the hands of people who would do such things. The only way to do that is by regulating them! And regulating the types of guns that arnt used for self defence but are used to kill multitudes of people, unless a mob of people are chasing after you these types of guns are ridiculous!!!

Honestly I don't think those in charge "crack down on drugs" because of any charity towards fellow humans. I think instead it is about control. We really are not "free" we are free in certain ways and not others.

Personally I would rather see guns banned than drugs. Drugs should be decriminalized and managed as a social problem, not a legal one.

gun control is a matter of bodies, when enough people die it will change. we obviously have not reached a high enough body count yet. it will have to happen in a single event, cumulative counting doesnt matter or we would have reached it by now. sad to say its that way but thats the reality.

It's heartbreaking that 20 murdered 6-year-olds wasn't enough.

@dkp93 yes its sickening

The USA has many informal, non-restrictive interventions on drugs but the ONLY way to reduce gun violence is restrictive legislation? That seems very odd to me.

I respect your views sir. Especially with your mentioned background. My view is different. I always carry a concealed sidearm. It's legal. I've a license here in Ohio. The vast majority of my neighbors do too. While we live in a very low crime suburb, (almost zero incidents of anything), many of us travel through less safe areas. My next door neighbor is the chief of police here. His view on this topic is that the more responsible armed citizens, the better. So, while your views are based on your experiences in law enforcement, so are his. It's an individual's perception.

I am much more inclined to agree with him not you. The U.S. has statistics that clearly show you're wrong. Compared to just about every other Civilized Nation we have massive amounts of gun deaths

@Kojaksmom
I've no issue with you disagreeing with me.
We're all entitled to our own opinions.

Everyone can have an opinion. Religious people have opinions. They are not backed up by facts. They hold on to they dearly just like gun owners do. Opinions should be well founded. Statistics speak for them selves. What else do we need to prove the US is better off without everyone carrying a gun. How do you determine that someone is responsible? Everyone has a threshold where they snap.

@dversluis1972
Good evening! Ready for a night of fireworks?
Yes. We all have an opinion on just about everything. I'm in total agreement with that. But some opinions are backed up by an individual's analysis of facts. And I'd have to say that the same statistics can be used to support opposing views effectively. One of my more interesting courses in college was; "How to Lie With Statistics". Please don't take that as I think you're lying, or falsifying data. I don't. And I've grown weary of looking at NRA provided numbers as well as Gun Control advocate''s data. Both sides seem to manipulate stuff to support their positions.
So, how does one determine who is and who is not responsible enough to carry a weapon.. that's a great question. I'm deemed "responsible" enough based on an FBI and county sheriff's background check. Basically, no outstanding warrants & not a convicted felon. How that makes me responsible is unknown to me. I've other credentials indicating I'm a trustworthy citizen. But, your point of everyone can snap is valid. But I can snap while driving my car, or my boat..... or while using a chainsaw.... so, I've no good answer for specifically carrying a sidearm. Heck, a policeman could snap. Maybe that's why young black men are getting shot in the back by LEOs. Anyway, I appreciate your civil response.

@bigpawbullets

Happy 4th of July.

I have added a link. I am curious how this can be turned around to speak for people owning guns.

Outside a movie I have not heart of anyone killing 30 people with a chainsaw or boat. There is an example in the Netherlands of someone driving into a crowd trying to hit the queen or Spain as a terrorist attack. And it certainly does not happen as much as gun violance. The comparison does not hold ground here.

@dversluis1972
I'm out here by the bonfire and the link doesn't work from my smartphone. I'll try it later.
I think I'm going to have to just say that we agree to disagree on this topic. I'll keep my gun, you can continue to dislike the law of the land.

@bigpawbullets

I respect your viewpoint.

I hope we can change the amentment with an other amentment.

How many have to die before it changes I don't know. Let's hope not too many.

I was robbed at gunpoint. It is easy to think if I had a gun I would have protected myself. Someone would have been dead if I had a gun. I am well trained in using one. I would not have been able to live with myself or be dead myself. I lost some plastic and paper. That ain't worth a life.

Let's let the politicians fight it out.

@dversluis1972 Our ancestors killed thousands with nothing more than a blanket

@dversluis1972 I had a guy point a gun at me once, I laughed at him and told him to get the fuck out of my car, and that's what he did, It was a little black guy with a little 22 pistol, the guy with me about shit his pants when he saw the gun, that's what got me laughing

Gun Control will only happen in the U.S. when the NRA no longer have allies in the Government & Contribute to election campaigns.The NRA lobby has Millions of dollars to "Buy" allies in their favour.Sixteen Million for Trumps campain,almost unlimited funds for lobbiests. No one should be able to buy Military Style weapons,AR15's for example. capacity magazines, hollow point ammunition,conversation kits to fully automatic for as little as fifty dollars at gun fairs.Anyone who suffers from an mental illness should not be able to buy an weapon.Under the age of twenty one,with any criminal record for violence.Hunting weapons only,rifles, shotguns,with limited capacity magazine's.

The NRA contributes far less to political campaigns than say unions. When people criticize the NRA for donating money to politics, I have to wonder if it's the money being donated they object to or just money in support of things they don't like.

I'm not a fan of the NRA, they're still the USA biggest proponent for gun safety, training and safe storage of guns we have. The profit from those endeavors, but they still push gun safety more than any other group right now.
