I guess it's a good idea for the warning, but I am a smoker (trying to quit). Do you think the warning from the Surgon General stops me?

It doesn't stop everyone but it may give many reason to pause. I agree with the suicide part. It is much easier and lethal when one has a gun.
@JackPedigo I agree with you on that. It could give someone more time to think about what they are doing. I have been firing firearms since I was 3 (Marlin 22LR bolt single shot rifle). For some reason I have never been really fond of pistols. Reason is they are far too easy to abuse. But if you have a full length 12 GA shotgun, you'd probably have a very hard time killing yourself with that. I can't remember the OAL of mine, but it's long.
