I actually have a solution that should please the constitutional conservatives. See the constitution says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." That means that the purpose of allowing guns is to form a military. So the way I see it, we heavily regulate guns, except for those who wish to join a civilian lead army of civilians. That way, both sides get their wish.
District of Columbia v Heller, 2008 settled that.

Actually, my solution would render this decision unnecessary.
