It's becoming clear to me that once again nothing is going to change, not really. I hope not, but it sounds like the same old, same old.
I just watched a mass shooter drill at a high school, I don't even know what to say...
How did we get to the point that someone felt the need to do this
Just brakes my heart...
Things already have changed. I have never seen so much movement against the gun nuts in all the years I have been involved with this issue. More and more people are speaking up and things are happening on the business front. [npr.org] (can you imagine getting a price reduction because you have guns?) Lets get rid of the perks and maybe people won't be so quick to join.
I wonder how the kids feel about these drills? I wonder how people feel about more fear being instilled in their life? Maybe now things are not happening elsewhere but everywhere and, unless more take a stand they will only get worse.
Postcard Campaign. I will be starting a campaign to urge my friends, family and others to send postcards to our state and federal legislators to show support for reasonable gun regulations such as those advocated by The Florida Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and League of Women Voters of Florida. Please message me with your email if you are interested.
One of the under-the-radar things I have seen this years is that the Young Democrats are organizing chapters all through the state and have hundreds of members and a few dozen chapters, if I understand the numbers correctly. High energy people, limber, like to be active, and tired of the crap being piled on them. I am very encouraged.
Don't give up. I think this time things might be different. The Kids are fighting back. These Florida kids are smart and dedicated. This thing made a huge impression on them and they will fight for their rights in a way that can galvanize the population to act. My intuition says that this time enough people have had enough and we've reached a kind of political tipping point.
Just makes me that much more determined, but sad also.
