The House on Wednesday passed a bill expanding federal background checks for gun purchases and transfers, the first major new firearm restrictions to advance in a generation. Keep your fingers crossed it can make it through the senate.

That bill would do nothing to deter shootings and thankfully it is dead in the water as it would require a federal database on gun owners to enforce it.

Unfortunately, several senators said they wouldn't support it. Remember, this is where many Republicans get money for their re-election campaigns.
