This was buried in the "news" cycle today:
In the shadow of suicides, Senate panel makes rare move to consider gun control
Does the constitution really give us all the right to bear arms? It's not as clear as some people claim
The 2nd amendment was - and is...laughable... in its' ancient grammar, and in its' oblivious intent....
Let me quote it...
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
First of all...what is a "Well regulated militia"? police? National guard? a rag-tag group of pretend soldiers? What was it then...and does it mean the same today?
For decades, legal scholars and advocates on both sides of the gun control issue have differed over the intended meaning of the Founding Fathers.
Did they mean that only those citizens who are organized into official militias by local or regional jurisdictions have the right to bear arms?
Or that anyone can keep arms because they might eventually join a “well-regulated” militia?
And what about the storage of the arms themselves? Can citizens keep them in their homes, or only in armories that supply the cited well-regulated militias?
Further, even assuming that every law-abiding citizen can own firearms, does that right extend to locked-and-loaded open carry in public?
This is why many want a constitutional amendment that at least upgrades the language of this vague, absurd, and badly dated "amendment".
Yesterday there was a shooting in Seattle. A 33 year old guy (I won't say man) shot and killed a motorist and then shot a bus driver (who was able to turn the bus around and get away). He then shot another driver, took the car and crashed into another car, killing the driver. he was arrested. This crazy gun violence even hits this area. Also, on NPR, was a report on the national banning of bumpstocks. Gun 'rights' people tried to take the case to Scotus, but it was denied. [nwpb.org]
@SeaGreenEyez Good, at least some positive news.
@SeaGreenEyez Thanks, pretty funny.
@SeaGreenEyez We know who are in favor of it! ?
If they want to commit the ultimate act, they will do it in another way. I have 4 friends that killed themselves. One hung himself from a door knob. The other waited on train tracks. The other two firearms were involved. One was suspected to be murder. You also have a nice 404 on the link...
