A teacher, with many experience with firearms as an 11-year reserve police officer, and who completed his last gun safety training less than a year ago, pointed a gun at the ceiling when it discharged. Three students were harmed. One student had bullet fragments in his neck and blood on his shirt. This happened during a gun safety class.
EDIT: I removed the word "was" from "... was discharged ...". The article itself reads like it was accidental rather than an intentional discharge.
I just read this and was going to post it. You beat me to it but good.
Remember when they told us the filters on cigarettes were healthy?
That is the direction they have you hold it in for safety. However if someone is above you?
Definitely.
Note that I had to edit the post. The article from Time, and from other news sources indicate that the discharge was accidental. And "... when it was discharged ...", the original text of my post, makes it sound like he fired it intentionally. Now edited to simply read "... when it discharged ..."
My bad.
@SamKerry interesting position. Either he fired it accidentally or he fired it on purpose. Not sure which scenario is the worse.
@Dick_Martin Exactly my thoughts, too.
