This is a two-part post. I rarely add my personal life to my posts, but this, I think, is important.

I spent this past weekend in Chicago. Chiraq specifically (South Side.) I went to pay my respects for the two moms who were murdered in a drive-by on July 26th. They were faithful activists in the โ€œMothers Against Senseless Killingsโ€ movement. They were at a safe space, a sacred space, usually respected. That's no longer the case.

During my visit I received the Active Shooter Notification for El Paso. On my way home, the notification for Dayton. There really was a moment of total disbelief, then disgust, then total defeat. We're accomplishing virtually nothing in the many movements to STOP THE INSANITY that is gun violence in America. ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”

The report on NPR this morning showed these 2 events may provide a tipping point. The report mentioned that the NPR is experiencing a meltdown of it's own making (it has been shooting itself). Perhaps if LaPierre gets booted out the org (or disorg) can go back to a saner and more sensible program (or better yet dissolves completely).

@SeaGreenEyez There was a connection with the report on NPR. As I see it the NRA is not able to add fuel to the fire which is their usual tactic. Another tactic are lawsuits to try and stop even basic regulatory laws. This group has always been a big obstacle to curbing gun violence.

We have to keep trying to figure out why our country is so violent. I worked in the DV field for 10 years. All these senseless deaths.

This is America. Whatever the question, the answer is almost always "follow the money". Until we get the big money out of politics we will have no Democracy.

Thanks for your focus on this issue. For those who like videos...I found a gem....I'd appreciate your feedback on it!

@robecology I thought this was a really good video. It raised just about every point that pro gun people raise and the counter remarks are exactly what we need to be using. It is pointless to yell and scream at each other and go off point and accomplish nothing.

Is a Gem indeed.

I love Betty! While videos may not deconvert the hardcore, they offer exposure to the outer fringes, and this one is good because it's not attacking gun owners, which would only make them dig in their heels.
