A point counter point that I thought about this morning. I'm trying to refine this argument so that it has more weight in the coming debate.

Helpful input is appreciated! Here is the pro-gun point followed by a counterpoint (which isn't the argument that I hold in my mind but is something the gun tooters might understand.)

Point: "We need to arm teachers and other officials in our public schools. No gun control law would have prevented that shooting except an outright ban on guns and that will never pass.

In the Texas shooting the hero was shot because he interjected himself between the shooter and the student victims. If he had had a gun he would not have been shoot and he would have been able to immediately stop the shooting."

Aside from the obvious opportunistic nature of the argument point given above as well as the detailed discussion of how ridiculous and dangerous it is to arm our teachers and other school officials in our public schools, this is a counter-point that I think might reach some on the fence who would otherwise sucker for the simplistic argument given above:

Counterpoint: "Have we sunk so low as a society that the only answer is to arm our teachers? Do you really wish to live in such a society?"

While it is simplistic and incomplete - it strikes at the nerve. We have to think these things through in order to prevail. Believe me, the other side will.
