So, I tried writing this in one of the Civilization IV wikis, where maybe it would be an accepted edit.
Unfortunately, they removed the edit. Apparently, a fully detailed concept of slavery is inappropriate, even if it's just telling the truth, so I am going to tell those details here, since apparently the idiots who run the wiki think they know what's to be said, and what's not:
Slavery has been one of the most abhorrent realities of history, which is one of the great means of observing and learning the past.
Slavery has any collection of these traits:
Little to no pay, or underpay
Disutility, harm, danger or distress from labor to the slave
Slave gets politicked harder than probably everyone in the host civilization
Slave is allowed the rights of a child, pet, or inanimate object.
Slave is not seen as a self, made of body, spirit and higher self (the thinking, studious brain, really)
The slave absolutely has no upward mobility out of the game of slavery
The "game tree" for the slave is rife with insults. Nash equilibrium here is probably always going to be "do this thing you hate to avoid more disutility"
Slave has no option for self-agency, or self-ownership
The company of a slave has allowances to reinforce the slave's condition as a slave
Slave must be regularly slave-like
The institution of slavery is always a pervasive, inseperable, immutable unseatable insult to those involved, for it becomes one's actual behavior
Slaves are kept locked up, like sheep in a pen
Slaves are fed and complimented in such a way that they develop only the capacity to do their work, and nothing else. Their food gives them just enough energy to stay on their hamster wheel, and not wanting to be a slave is usually hell, as they are birthed and kept in such locations of the host civilization's region of the Earth.
Slaves are coerced into their work.
I understand why they didn’t allow your contribution. There is one key element, which must be met, for someone to be a slave: they are in captivity and cannot leave by their own choice.
I think they already had that in the wiki. But I put that in there, thank you!
