The slightly sad, but hopeful story of the brown bear today, things are changing, perhaps for the better.

Really interesting especially the part about swimming. More and more wild animals are getting used to people and showing up in places they don't normally go. Coyotes have become common even in some urban areas and people are getting used to them. A couple of years ago I posted a story about a brown bear being sighted one these islands., Apparently he swam from the mainland to several islands, including Lopez. It was said he was looking for a mate. Despite numerous searches he could not be found. Finally he was trapped on the mainland close to where he had first been sighted. Of course he had lost lots of weight but was transported to a more bear friendly area in the mountains.
